Working with NEAS to Improve Regional Care...

This year, we’ve worked closely with the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) to improve care across our region. Together, we’ve launched new programmes and partnerships that make a real difference to patients and communities.

Best in Emergency Response

In 2024/25, NEAS delivered the fastest ambulance response times in England across every national category, further strengthening emergency care in our region. Average response times improved across the board compared to 2023/24 — with Category 1 calls now reached in just 6 minutes 41 seconds, significantly ahead of the national average of 8 minutes 19 seconds. These results reflect the impact of  sustained investment, operational improvement and a relentless commitment to saving lives when it matters most.

Better Trauma Training

NEAS introduced a new trauma training programme to help ambulance crews respond more effectively to serious injuries. The training helps staff quickly decide the best place to take patients, improving outcomes and saving lives.

Supporting Rural Communities

In Teesdale, NEAS community paramedics are working with local GPs to care for patients in remote areas. They help people stay well at home, reducing the need for hospital visits and building strong links between emergency and primary care.

Teaming Up for Urgent Care

NEAS has joined a new health alliance in the Tees Valley to deliver urgent care services. This includes running urgent care centres and home visits during evenings and weekends. It means faster, more convenient care for patients and new
opportunities for staff.
