North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust...

North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (NEAS) is the only one of our FTs to cover the entire 8,400 square mile geographic footprint of the North East.  The Trust employs over 3,000 staff and responds to over 390,000 emergency and urgent incidents every single year.

NEAS was the first to use a combined, multi-skilled workforce to answer both 111 and 999 calls using a system known as NHS Pathways, supported by clinicians and specialists. This integration between 111 and 999 allows the Trust to be flexible and adapt more quickly to spikes in demand at different times of the day or week.

The Trust is completely digital with patient records. Ambulance crews can now share these records with other health partners and access patient reports when needed. NEAS was the first ambulance service in the country to introduce body-worn cameras for staff to protect them against assaults and collect evidence for prosecution of offenders.

The Trust has integrated its patient transport and emergency care services into a single service approach.  This allows greater flexibility for same day urgent/emergency patients requiring transport. It means that patients are managed by staff with the best skills and knowledge for their particular conditions. This integrated approach means the response to patients may come from different specialities across NEAS based on clinical demand.  This design has now become the national standard for all ambulances in England.

The Trust continues to develop its ‘Falls Initial Response Skills Training (FIRST)’, an innovative course provided to care home staff aimed at reducing unnecessary ambulance responses to this sector.

Vision

Safe, effective and responsive call for all.

Values

Compassion

We care for our patients and staff with compassion and empathy. We listen intently to those whose lives we touch, so that our provision is considered to be above and beyond the call of duty.

Accountable and responsible

We will make sure we always fulfil our duties and take responsibility for our actions. In doing this, we will support each other in delivering our service and react quickly to lessons learnt along the way. We will only be critical of ourselves, not others.

Respect

We work in challenging environments and situations. We will treat all our patients and colleagues with the same respect we’d expect to be shown ourselves. We will act as one team, value one another and face the future together.

Excellence and innovation

We will always do our very best. We will learn and constantly innovate wherever we can by embracing change to enhance our service. We will listen to, and collaborate with, our colleagues throughout the NHS, fellow emergency services and patients. This will enable us to remain at the forefront of specialist responsive care, as a dynamic, integrated and sustainable service.

Pride

This is more than a job, and it’s a privilege to serve the patients in our care. We’ve made a true commitment to our vocation as part of the overall NHS healthcare system. This will drive us with integrity at every turn to help others. We will commit to the recognition, training and development of our teams so that they can perform their duties to the best of their abilities.
