Gateshead Health provides a range of hospital and community health services. It runs facilities including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Blaydon Urgent Care Centre and Bensham Hospital, all within the town of Gateshead.
The Trust employs around 4,200 staff and focuses on providing excellent general health services to the local community. It also provides key specialist services including Gynaecology, Maternity and Fertility, Palliative Care and Old Age Psychiatry.
Alongside a full range of local hospital services, Gateshead Health also provides breast screening services for the populations of Gateshead, South Tyneside, Sunderland and parts of Durham. The Trust is also the North East hub for the National Bowel Cancer and AAA Screening Programmes, covering a population of around seven million people.
The Trust provides care from state-of-the-art facilities including a £32m Emergency Care Centre, a £12m Pathology Centre of Excellence and the Peter Smith Surgery Centre.
Maternity services in Gateshead are rated among the very best in the country and the Trust’s work in treating gynaecological cancers has built up a national and international reputation. Gateshead Fertility Centre is also one of the top ten IVF clinics in the country which has created hundreds of new families in the North East over the last decade.
