Dr Chris Snowden, Clinical Lead...

Dr Chris Snowden.jpgDr Chris Snowden trained and graduated from medical school in Newcastle upon Tyne and became a Consultant Anaesthetist at The Freeman Hospital in 1997. His clinical interests have included anaesthesia for all forms of major surgery including liver and pancreatic transplantation, urology, vascular and orthopaedic surgery. Chris also has extensive experience in developing preoperative assessment pathways and preoperative cardiopulmonary exercise testing.

In March 2015, he was appointed as National Clinical Lead (Joint) for Perioperative Medicine at the Royal College of Anaesthetists. Chris is appointed as Joint National GIRFT lead for perioperative medicine and anaesthesia and GIRFT Clinical Ambassador for North East and Cumbria.

Chris joined the Provider Collaborative in December 2023 with the knowledge that NENC Providers have some of the best clinical practices in the UK. His aim is to ensure that these practices are not only shared around the region, but that they are also front and centre of the NHS nationally. Through his Clinical Lead role, he hopes to develop the clinical component of the Provider Collaborative, interfacing with Trusts and promoting collaboration across clinical networks to deliver pathways of care that have multiple benefits to patient care. He has a keen interest in the National GIRFT programme and using this learning to tackle unwarranted variation, share best practice and develop mutual support across the Provider Collaborative.

Chris enjoys working with a group of people who are passionate about the North East and Cumbria and share the same vision of improving patient care across the region
