South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust employs over 9,500 staff and provides healthcare services to more than 1.5 million patients, carers and families in the Tees Valley, North Yorkshire and beyond.
As a major cancer, tertiary and regional trauma centre, the James Cook University Hospital provides more than 37 different specialities all on one site. Construction of a new £5 million diagnostic hub is also underway at the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton which serves communities across the Dales and Teesside.
The Trust also runs services from three primary care hospitals in Redcar, East Cleveland and Richmond, as well as local community NHS teams providing care for patients everywhere from Hawes to Redcar.
The Trust is as the forefront of cutting-edge clinical research and innovation. It was one of first trusts in the UK to develop the state-of-the-art cancer treatment ‘stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR)’. It is also an international flagship site for non-invasive cardiac surgery which negates the need for open heart surgery.
In 2024, the Trust signed a partnership agreement with North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust and North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board to form one hospital group. The formal agreement will help strengthen the way both Trusts collaborate with each other to deliver better outcomes for patients and the wider population across the Tees Valley and beyond.
