Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust provides health and care services for more than 500,000 people across Northumberland and North Tyneside. It serves one of the largest geographical areas of any NHS trust in England.
The Trust delivers care from hospitals, community sites and people’s homes. Its services include emergency and urgent care, planned care, rehabilitation, outpatient appointments, surgery, diagnostic tests, maternity care, children’s services, therapies, end of life care, and community nursing.
Northumbria Healthcare runs services from a range of sites across Northumberland and North Tyneside. These include Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, general and community hospitals, an outpatient and diagnostic centre, and integrated health and social care facilities.
The Trust has been rated ‘Outstanding’ overall by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) on two occasions. It is one of the largest employers in the North East and has around 12,000 members of staff.
Northumbria Healthcare is a foundation trust with a Council of Governors made up of 71 representatives from local communities, staff and partner organisations. It was also one of the first NHS trusts in England to achieve Advanced Foundation Trust status.
The Trust operates two wholly owned subsidiary companies. Northumbria Healthcare Facilities Management Limited provides estates, facilities and project management services. Northumbria Primary Care (NPC) Ltd manages 12 GP practices, providing care for around 125,000 registered patients across Northumberland and North Tyneside.
