South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust (STSFT) provides hospital and community healthcare services for almost 500,000 people across South Tyneside, Sunderland and nearby areas. The Trust also provides specialist services for patients from across the North East and North Cumbria.

More than 8,000 staff work for the Trust. They provide care in hospitals, health centres, schools, GP practices and people’s own homes. They help people stay well, recover from illness and manage long-term health conditions.

The Trust delivers services from eight main hospital and healthcare sites, including Sunderland Royal Hospital, South Tyneside District Hospital and Sunderland Specialist Eye Hospital. It also provides care from a range of community locations across South Tyneside and Sunderland.

STSFT runs several specialist services that support patients from across the region. These include eye care, vascular surgery, renal medicine, urology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and weight management surgery. Sunderland Specialist Eye Hospital is one of the leading specialist eye hospitals in the UK and cares for patients from across the North East and beyond.
